Pagosa Springs is a four-season mountain town. Here is what each season is like and how to choose.
Summer: the heat break
Summer is the headline season. Afternoons in Pagosa Springs top out in the low 80s while lower elevations sit above 100. Mornings are cool and evenings ask for a light jacket. Days fill with river time on the San Juan, hiking and biking, and soaking in the hot springs.
Summer weeks book early, especially around holidays. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the mountains, so plan outdoor activities for the morning.
Fall: golden aspens
Late September is the time for gold aspens, and the crowds thin after summer. Days are crisp and bright, nights are cold, and the hot springs feel especially good. It is a favorite for couples and for anyone who prefers a quieter trip.
Winter: Wolf Creek snow
From December through March the draw is Wolf Creek Ski Area, about 40 minutes from town and known for the most snow in Colorado. Staying in Pagosa means a full kitchen, a fireplace or hot tub, and a smaller-town feel than the big resorts.
Winter driving needs care: check road conditions before crossing Wolf Creek Pass, carry traction devices and keep the tank full.
Spring: the quiet season
Spring is the quiet season. Some activities have limited hours, and snow can linger up high, but availability is easy and rates are often the best of the year. It suits travelers with flexible dates who want a peaceful stay.
Which season is right for you?
Choose summer for the heat escape and river time, fall for aspens and calm, winter for skiing and soaking, and spring for value and quiet. Whatever the season, our local team is happy to help you pick a home. Browse our homes or call the office at (970) 731-1485.
Packing by season
Summer: sunscreen, a hat, a light jacket for the evening and a rain layer for afternoon storms. Fall: warm layers for cold mornings and nights, and a camera for the aspens. Winter: insulated boots, gloves, a waterproof shell and traction devices for the car. Spring: layers and waterproof shoes, since weather can swing from sun to snow in a single day.
Choosing your dates
If your dates are flexible, shoulder periods such as late spring and early fall often combine easier availability with good value. Holiday weeks, peak summer weeks and the best ski weeks fill first, so book early for those. If you are planning a longer trip, ask us about extended stays, which many of our homes welcome.
Booking direct with a local team
When you book with Simply Home you work with the people who look after the home: the same local team that cleans, inspects and maintains it. If plans change or you have a question, call the office at (970) 731-1485 and talk to someone in Pagosa Springs.
